Hello to every one back home, long time you haven't heard from us. We are really sorry we can't keep in touch as often as needed, but we went through so much the last 2 weeks. And to add it all, I must explain to all of you that don't understand why we don't send email or call, that those things are really expansive. For example, the Internet here is 5-6$ per hour, which is about 18
nis, and each visit ends up for at least after 3 hours. The reason that it's that expansive is that they pay by quota and not for the broadband, so they charge accordingly. But still, we try to manage all the things we need to get from the Internet and at the same time write you about our adventures and showing you some pictures of us.
Over the last 3 weeks that went by, he had some few adventures, I'll try to summer it up for you, and showing you as much pictures as I can, since they capture the real story behind it.
On the last post I told you we were on our way to the Fox Glaciers. It was really amazing to see such a thing. It was so
huge and according to our guide it advances couple of meters each day, and each day he arrive there, it changes. Well, those are the biggest glaciers in the world.
We went on a full day walk on the glacier. First, we had to climb for about 40 minutes just to get to a point we could start walk on it. Then, we had another 3 hours on the ice before we head on down. After one hour on the ice I had enough, so I had my Private guide that took me down and
Izick kept on going with the rest of the group.
I must say that those glaciers are quite magnificent and you can't understand their size and power until you are pretty close to it. There is another Glacier on the other side of the mountain which
calld Franz Josef Glacier. We went also to see it the next day, but we just saw it from far away (I did,
Izick just miss the big sign saying "Danger" and went to see it really up close).
One more thing we did before we left Fox Glacier town, is visiting lake Mathewson. It was a romantic walk.
Izick took me late in the evening, so we could see the sunset (In New Zealand the sunset is at 22:00 at the time). The lake was a mirror lake, so we could see the trees reflecting on it. Our camera didn't catch the sunset like it really was, but I hope you believe me if I'll tell you it was amazing.
From Fox Glacier we were on our way to
Graymouth. There wasn't much to do in that town except visiting Shanty town, a recreation of the life in the last century. It was nice, we found some gold there, we are rich now!!!
From
Graymouth we went on a day trip to the avalanche peak. The place called this way because in the winter time it really fulfill to his name (don't you worry, it's summer now in New Zealand).
This time, me and
Izick had our separate ways. He climbed to the peak to see the views and I went by myself on a nice walk in the area. After all the tracks we have been by
now, I had enough of climbing for the near future.
From
Greaymouth we were on our way to Nelson. The way was quite long and we had lots of stops on the way.
First stop:
Punakaiki, it's a place with special rocks in the sea. The locals say they have a shape of pancakes, but we found pancakes only in the restaurant across the street.
Second stop: Fox caves. This was a nice 3 hours walk to a special cave. We had to cross some rivers on the way, which the information center missed to tell us.
Finally after 1.5 walk in the rivers and the mud we arrived to the caves.
We entered to the cave carrying 3 lights with us . After 200 meter deep in the cave I started to feel a bit claustrophobic and I thought the light wasn't enough, so I went back, by myself.
Izick continued on, deep in to the cave. At some point I started calling for him to make sure he is
ok, but I haven't heard a sound. Not long after I really started to worry, screaming for him and at some point I started to cry. Eventually, there was a family over there that came back after they heard me crying. The man went inside to look for
Izick. After about 10 minutes searching he went outside telling me that
izick went
really deep and he is on his way back. I was so thankful they were there helping me, since it was only the 2 of us on the track.
It seems like a very short story, but believe me the feeling of loosing
Izick wasn't as easy as it seems.
3rd stop: Watching some seals near
Westport.
We arrived to
Westport to fill some gas and to buy some oil, since we had some problems with the car heating up. After, I think, 10 Kilometers out of town our car almost got on fire. The heating sign was red and the car didn't cool down.
Izick started to be very nerves, and it's an unusual thing to see, for those who knows him.
I decided to went back to
westport, since Nelson was 250 kilometers away. It wasn't an easy thing to do, each couple of meters we
stopped the car and let it cool down. We went right back to the gas station we have been before. There was no mechanic in the area at that time, but thankfully, the gas man really helped us, and also gave us some quick lesson in heating problem.
The next day the car went to the workshop. According to the experts, our radiator was leaking. So we had to stay in that town for 3 days until the car was fixed.
In the mean time, we rent a car for one day, look in the picture which car was it (I can tell you
izick was very exciting).
We drove up to the north to do some day walks. We did a 3 hour walk from the start of the
Heapy track (one of the great walks). The view was very unique for the area. It was by the shore and there was lots of palm tree. It really remained me parts of Thailand.
After that we stop on our way back in a place were we some some special arches and caves.
First thing we did when we got our car back is continue to Nelson, our main destination.
When we got here, just one day passed and we were on our way to another track. The Abel Tasman Track. This is one of the great walks in New Zealand. It's a special track that follows the coast.
On the first day of the track we took a kayak. It was surprisingly very fun and I really enjoyed it. Izick on the other hand, had some difficulties kayaking, It was hard for him. Well, we were kayaking for at least 4 hours in the Tasman sea, it's not like the Kishon or the Kinerate.
The next 2 days of the track we walked by the coast. We still had to climb some mountain, but not something serious. The views were amazing as you can see in the pictures.
At the end of the track we had a taxi boat that came and pick us up. It's not like anything we had in Thailand.
It was a ride with a lot of andranline boost for us.
Finlay I arrived to this day.
Remark: I missed some pictures from shanty town, I promise to upload it next time.
